Hello Readers,
Welcome to my blog. In my last blog, I have mentioned about
some new trends which I was learning at Allandale Recreation center. Today, I am
going to give you some interesting information about my new placement. As, I believe
in that every beginning is new beginning. This is also new beginning for me to
learn new skills and expertise.
I have started my internship at First year experience office
as Lead peer mentor. I got this opportunity from Paul Arrendondo, who is lead
of the office. On the very first week of my placement, I got an big opportunity
and responsibility also. I got position of event co-ordinator for the cultural
event in the college arranged by the GCSA. I was very happy and nervous as well
to do this task. As, this will take good leadership skills and I need to be
good team member also. I also got good partner for this work, as she had experience
to do same work. I will learn something from her experience.
I am trying to do everything in organized way, so I can get
perfect and expected outcome on the day of this event. This is event named “my
culture your culture even: take a flight”. It is same event as last year, but
with different idea and exhibition. i am looking forward to learning some
skills like leadership, problem solving and conflict resolving skills from this
experience. As there are more than 60 students are working under me, I must behave
responsible and try to maintain integrity of my work. Paul is helping me out to
handle this all and giving me motivation and guidance to do things in
professional manner.
I came to know about professionalism, as I need to contact
each mentor and staff by e-mail. I have learned written communication
etiquettes and looking forward to improving it more. I also got opportunity to
work with college staff, which is very good experience and giving me huge opportunity
for learning. I believe, I will do good and make my peers proud of me and make
the event perfect and enjoyable for everyone.
Thank you.

Hello Annu, I am glad to hear that you got a really big responsibility this year at your placement as an event coordinator. I hope this went well and you worked great by putting all your efforts in it to prove your lead of the office that the decision he made to give you the responsibility of coordinating an event was right. I am pretty sure that this will be helpful in future as well because you may experience such situations of leading where you would have to show your leadership skills that you have learned from your placement. As you mentioned about professionalism, so this will be a skill that is inculcated in you for life that will definitely will be proven beneficial in all aspects of life even in getting or applying for a job as you will need to be very professional with you co-workers. Overall, I really enjoyed reading your blogs and hope you enjoy the rest of the semester.
